1995 Camaro z28. Head unit random powering off

Ok so I have a 95 Camaro z28
Bose speaker system.
Head unit keeps randomly powering off
ita a 95 so no BCM and yes Windows work fine if radio has shuts itself off.

Any ideas
Again no BCM until 96 and this is a 95 so no response saying it's a BCM issue lol that's all over this forum

But it does have a retained accessory power (RAP) module. That was integrated with the BCM in later models. The RAP module has individual relays for the windows and radio. But I guess you know that already and figure it can’t possibly be that either.

I don't claim to know that
i just know from all my reading that the BCM didn't come til the 96 model year and when I read what works for most is the BCM repair and I can go that route
for all I know it's just a faulty head unit but was hoping for input on the issue for pre BCM f body for 93-95 fbody

So, you didn’t find my suggestion about the possibility of the 1995’s RAP module causing the problem helpful????

OK.

Yes very helpful and Ty
I guess I will have to track another one down to replace it
I think it's dealer item only
Oddly when it shuts off everything else inside works as it should
And the radio if I Turn It off my the main volume I hear a clunk sound when I power back on and the cd player making noise as if to attempt to read a cd ...

Relatively easy to access the RAP module. Why not try jarring it to see if that's what causes the radio to turn off?

RAP module in a 95 also controls power to the electric windows through the same pin on the RAP connector. Since he said those still work, probably not the RAP module. More like a problem with the wiring/fuse or the radio itself.

But the 1995 diagram shows there are separate internal relays in the module for the window power (via pin B) and the radio power (via pin A). And each relay is controlled from it's own pin on the solid state portion. Isn’t it possible for either path to fail independently?

I don't see that here. But then it is late and eyes are tired ;-) Looks like radio and windows are pin B. Power accessory is pin A to fuse 7 which does not go to the radio as far as I see.

Pin A doesn't go to the radio. Pin B does, as well as to the windows. There are two 12v power wires to the radio, one is direct from fusible link F and the other is from pin B of the RAP module connector.

Just proves a mechanical engineer shouldn’t answer electrical questions

The converse is certainly true also. But your success rate is way higher than mine in attempting crossover ;-)

Also shows that trying to post after midnight isn’t a good idea......

I "resemble" that remark, since 97.9% of my posts are after midnight for this insomniac. Speaking of that, I just posted a remark in a boating forum about the idiots in Texas that have refused to evacuate the area that NOAA has described as soon (in the next few hours) having "unsurvivable" storm surge from Laura with 150+ mph winds. I guess Darwin wins again! But you can't tell them that..or anything...fake news you know ;-)

For reference, Laura should be in Jersey about Saturday night.
