1994 Camaro V6
1994 Camaro V6
Clearly i'm obsessed with Camaros (ok, i've known that for a long time). First off, i live in Alaska. My '00 Z28 gets parked for Winter. And I do ice racing in the Winter, so that means i have to have a second car. I bought a 1987 Nissan 300zx for $350 with the intent of getting it running for ice racing. I don't think that's gonna happen. Not enough time and they're rare in AK so that means no parts cars around.
Long story short, a guy is selling a '94 V6 5spd Camaro for $1200. Does anyone have snow/ice experience with these cars? How do they do? This would be a daily driver unless we get hit hard with snow (i've still got my '88 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 for that). These ones have open rear ends, right? Will that hurt it's performance on snow/ice? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

A limited slip differential was optional on the V6 cars. Look for RPO "G80" on the build tag to determine if the car left the factory with one.
I had a 97 V6 M5 Y87 for almost nine years, and drove it regularly in the snow. The only problem was the stock Goodyear GA tires. After I got some better all-season GY's, I had no problems, except when snow got too deep and it would high center. And I didn't put additional weight in the trunk or other "tricks" like that. The best way to drive it was to get it in a higher gear so you wouldn't make the tires loose grip suddenly.
Actually it was fun to drive in snow and you'll learn a lot about oversteer at a much lower speed. I NEVER put it in a ditch after 70k miles (original clutch) in Michigan and Illinois.

Thanks. I drove my '00 for a week or so when i first bought it in the middle of winter and just had the stock all-seasons. I remember it doing ok, but there wasn't any deep snow, mostly clear roads with some ice on the side streets, and i parked it the first time it did snow. I'd be getting some ice tires for it, so it sounds like it'll do ok.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!
