Re: 1980 z28
your posting really got to me. my son was your age when he wanted exactly what you want - a 1980 Z/28. me, always being a car guy, loved he car but was fearful of how he was going to treat it. When i was a kid i had a 1967 Camaro SS/RS 396 and i was always seeing how fast it would go or how much smoke and noise i could make. All i could think of was how many ways he could get hurt with this Z/28. He bought it and proceeded to see how fast it would go and every dangerous thing he thought of. somewhere through all that he grew up and started taking care of it and fixing it up and it became his pride and joy. This also became an opportunity for us to work on it together and make it a bonding time. In April of this year he died (natural causes) at the age of 32 and our times together on the Z/28 are only memories now. I have been in your shoes and i have been in your parents shoes so i can say this to both of you. To you: it would be fun but it also HAS TO make you learn to be responsible with it. like having a baby or a dog, you must treasure it to the point you won't hurt it or you. make a contract with your parents that says you won't drive it carelessly and not even be around the car if your drinking or your friends are, and whatever other concerns your parents have. To your parents: kids don't want your grampa's Buick to drive. reliability or how bad it is in the snow is not a concern to them, they want a car to tinker with and sounds loud. this could be an opportunity for you to use this to help form his maturity and hopefully a project to work together on. i now wouldn't trade the time together with that Z/28 for anything. It looks like there has been alot of work done on this car he wants to buy and it may be a bit more hot rodded than he needs but with the right conditions and constraints it could be an investment in responsibilty. I don't know if any of this helps or not, i just felt a simularity there. you can see my (his) Z/28 in my garage section and also my facebook page> http://www.facebook.com/?ref=mb&sk=i...67597786645453
