Thoughts on the new Torquehead LT-DIS system

Interested to see what others think of the system and hoping someone pulled the trigger on buying to get some feedback from an install.

Appears this is your first post since 2010. Good to see you back.

Unfortunately, there are very few active members, and only about one or two new posts a week. Fortunately, the few (maybe 1/2-dozen) who remain are mostly LT1 addicts. So… may take a while to get a response. Not sure if any of them have done a 24X, either Torqhead or EFI Connection. I’m here every day, mostly banning spammers. Shoebox and I have both sold our LT1’s.

The individual who bought my Formula went 24X, and with some changes to the original build has set a personal best of 9.64-seconds @ 139.4 MPH, with a 1.2x 60-ft. With a much more aggressive cam and a signal-plane intake he’s shifting at 7,500 RPM. As sold, the car had a MoTeC M48Pro engine management system, with their 8-channel ignition driving 8 LSx coil-near-plug. But it relied on the optical sensor in the Opti for cam and crank position…. sort of like the Bailey Engineering LTCC 8-coil setup. The MoTeC system was developed in the late 1990’s (my setup was built in 2000) well before anyone heard of LTCC, or 24X. The new owner chose to replace the system because the MoTeC ECU was seriously outdated, and mice had their way with the wiring. I don’t know which 24X cam/crank sensor system he went with, and I think he runs an aftermarket engine management system rather than a truck LSx PCM.

I can ask him for some input on what he uses, and how good it is. Amazing guy, does his owned builds, does his own tuning. He’s currently replacing my nitrous setup with a turbocharger. Definitely knows what he’s doing!

Re: Thoughts on the new Torquehead LT-DIS system

This is a newer setup they've just launched that used the original computer with the coil based plug setup. The motor is stock but its got some miles on it, and I suspect it was beat on before I got it. This seems like the easiest way to go to have a reliable ignition setup. Im doubting I will ever get to building up the motor and some of the stuff I squirreled away before life happened. A rebuild would likely be mostly stock anyways. I probably should look at just getting an LS car (tuning/upgrades) but not sure I could sell this car as I've had it like 25 years now.

I know this question is a bit older, but it looks like that new system is a stop gap for people looking to no longer worry about the opti, or stop replacing opti's, and keep running the stock PCM and still use individual coils per plug.

If you are looking to get away from opti issues and want to run 8 coils, with no other changes, this system will do that. However, a lot of guys swap over to the LS computer for tuning option and higher RPM capacity, not just getting away from the opti and use the other 24x solutions.
