Stumped on miss
Hey guys, I am at a loss for ideas that could answer my dilemma so i will see if you guys can help me. A few weeks ago i put a set of pace setter lt's in my T/A. Since then I have a really bad miss from 2000-2300 RPM and a miss at idle. By really bad, i mean the it feels like the engine is boring its way out of the car. The problem gets worse as the car gets hotter. I checked the plugs and they are looking a little darker than the nice golden they were when i installed the headers. I replaced wires, cap, rotor, coil, and plugs. I touched the ICM which was extremely burning hot even when i could rest my hand against the cylinder head when i first started it up. Any ideas?

Helpful hint.....
Might want to provide SPECIFIC info on your car - year, model, engine, tranny and any major mods. They built T/A's over a the period 1969 - 2002. Without knowing what year you are asking about, no one can provide you with an accurate answer. We can guess it may be an LT1, because you mention the ICM. I'd suggest you put that info in the "signature" field, so it appears in all your posts.

Try spacing the IC Module off the head, as suggested by Shoebox:

If that doesn't help, might be time to replace it. But you need to look closer for signs of damaged/burned wires. All it takes is one cylinder misfiring, and the unused air blowing out the exhaust throws the O2 sensors off, the PCM adds a lot of extra fuel, and now you've got one cylinder misfiring, and the other three running very rich - would explain the "darker" plugs.
Are your headers cera-metallic coated? A number of people have experienced O2 sensor failure, apparently due to the initial "burn off" of the coating components contaminating the sensors.

Okay I'm gonna try that. Is there a way to test the ICM. Autozone's tester cannot do it. THe headers are not coated. I'm gonna try scoping all 8 wires to check spark voltage and if i see one below the rest, ill pull the plug and see what is up with it too.

Thanks Fatdog! The o2 sensors are new and when i read the datastream, i was getting reading from both sides that were in spec. I wish it was that easy though. I'm really busy this week so i'll try and figure it out this weekend and update you guys.

This is not a new problem.I've been on this board since 1996,and there is a simple fix,I just don't know what it is.I didn't keep any records on this ,as I had a 93,and didn't have these issues. But this has been a regular problem, and there is a simple fix,I just don't know what it is.Might check all the hoses for cracks, the wires from the throttle body, ect.Sorry, wish I could be more help, but seems to be if the computer doesn't recognize any changes you made, that could be the problem.My02.Hope this helps.
