slow start

When starting my car I need to prime it 2-4 times in order to start it if it has been sitting for at least a couple hours. I understand that I am losing fuel pressure, just wondering if this is a regulator or fuel pump problem.

Thanks,
Andy

It could be either one. If the car sat long enough it would have low or no pressure and need to build up pressure so if it take multiple cranks that could be your regulator. My car hold full pressure for a hour and then slowly bleeds down. It will start first time everytime even if the fuel pressure is zero right before the key is turned. A weak pump might not be able to supply enough fuel on one key turn. Regulator sounds like it works somewhat so I would guess fuel pump.

Very common for the check ball in the fuel pump assy to be sticking. If the problem were the regulator, you would be able to draw fuel through the vacuum line connected to it.
