Remote disconnect for battery

I have a battery relocation kit I am about ready to install. I understand that I need a remote kill switch and I have one. It is a push /pull rod style switch. The switch looks to be a pain to install and I am not very thrilled to be drilling thru my tail light to install. I am making a custom bracket to hold the battery box and it will be installed in place of the spare tire and covered up with the rear trim.
Does anyone know if the switch HAS to be the push/pull style. It would be much easier to install this style switch http://store.summitracing.com/largei...=mor-74100.jpg

When I read the rule book it says that "keyed" switches are not permitted. Is this switch considered keyed. I would like to send the whole push/pull rod back and just install the rotary switch. Has anyone ever passed tech with this switch without any problems.

I think you need to drop the alternator out too, don't you?

Yeah, I was thinking of something along the lines of this:

I didn't use one of those. I just ran a #2 wire from the back of the alternator to the battery side of the disconnect switch. I used one of the Flaming River switches. I monted it to the antenna support, and went through the bumper instead of the light.

The only place I would feel OK about drilling a hole thru is going to be in the rear taillight filler piece. A bumper is just too expensive. I could pick up a taillight and swap them around.

What I am asking is if the rotary switch is legal and not considered a "keyed" switch?!
This is the disconnect I would like to use.

Yes, it is legal, but it has to be mounted to a permanent part of the car. Thats why I did it the way it did. The hole I made in the bumper is way smaller then that moroso switch will make. You going to mount it somewhere else?

I want to mount it on the rear filler piece between the tail lamps( the piece that says CAMARO) . I already have an extra filler piece.
The sealed battery box is huge and by the time I was done the rod on the disconnect would only be about 6" long.
The person that told me that the rotary switch is illegal always interprets things wrong and he is into import garbage so that isn't saying much... but I wanted to be sure. I would hate to drive a good distance to get somewhere and have them tell me that it is wrong.... that is my luck anyhow...

That should work out ok. You might have some trouble getting the battery cables through that rear sheetmetal. Nothing a hole saw can't fix, hehe. Post up some pic when you get it done. Ive even seen those switches through the right rear quarter panel, eek.

Battery and NHRA legal rotary disconnect switch..... no holes in the car, handle is removable to make it virtually invisible on the street. They did eventually make us move the "on/off" labels up onto the bumper:

That I like. Guess I found my way for mounting the switch. Thanks

That rotary switch that you are looking at isn't keyed. Keyed would mean that the handle comes out when the power is turned to OFF.

I didn't think it was keyed but if you look at post #7 the "not fast and he's furious" guy I work with was saying that it was.
After seeing Freds post I will keep my push/pull switch and adapt it with either a handle to turn the switch or maybe just utilize the handle the kit came with to push it off. I am leaning toward maybe using a piece of Delrin plastic as a bushing so I can use the kits rod to push it off. Either way, I'll post pics of the finished project.

I got everything in and mounted. I kept the push/pull switch. I made a bracket from Aluminum and also used a piece of Delrin plastic for the handle to slide thru. I also mounted remote lugs behind the rear trim panels. The battery is tucked away behind it as well.
Here are the pics.

Here is the box I made rather than use the monstrously huge box that summit sells. I wanted the box/battery to be hidden. The box is sealed.
