pump check valve = dead pump?

Finally got a pressure gauge on the schrader valve and after the pump primes the pressure falls fast. I think the check valve is the problem.

1. So how long will the pump last now that the check valve is shot?

2. Racetronix or Texas Speed pump kit; what is the difference besides 30 bucks?

Have you verified that its not leaky injectors or a ruptured fuel pressure regulator diaphragm?

Racetronix modifies the Walbro pump to properly fit the bottom "strainer basket" of the stock fuel pump bucket. The Texas Speed kit looks like they use a stock Walbro pump. I've installed both a stock Walbro and a Racetronix modified Walbro; I spend the extra money on the Racetronix setup.

Nope.

The speed of the pressure drop I don't think could be injector related. IDK about the regulator. How would I test the regulator for a faulty diaphragm?

Pull the vacuum line off the regulator and see if any gas is present; a ruptured diaphram will allow gas to enter the vacuum line.

Shoebox has a write-up to diagnose fuel pressure issues: http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.htm...essure_testing

Well do the age and mileage on the regulator, I'm going to buy a new one.

AC Delco OEM or an adjustable kit that uses the regulator I have already? Do the kits like SLP come with a new diaphragm? Do I even need an adjustable regulator?

No, you'll be fine with another factory replacement.

Well the AC Delco FPR should be here tomorrow. Now it's time to decide on a pump. I have been told that the Racetronix kit is just plug and play, no modifications needed. According to this install, this guy had to trim the buckets tabs in order to get it to fit.

So why noy just get the TSP kit or something similar and save a few bucks for the same thing?

The tabs are very easy to trim. As I stated above, a stock Walbro pump will not fit in the stock strainer basket. I've installed both types, go the Racetronix route!

So the only modification would be the tab removal? If that's the case why spend the extra 50 bucks? Just get a Combination Motorsport pump kit for $110. Exact same parts just less money.

Update...

New FPR is in and still same hard starts. So I'm almost positive the fuel pump valve is not working. I have ruled out injectors since the car is not smoking or running rich. So when is Racetronix going to have a sale?
