Potential AFPR leak

I have a gasoline leak in my 96 Z28. I have a Hypertech AFPR. When I prime the lines I can smell gas. I felt all around the injectors, then smell my finger to no smell. I then felt around the AFPR and had a hint of gasoline smell. I pulled the fuel rail and there is a little brown residue on the AFPR and a little brown residue on the intake near where the AFPR was at. Looking at some other posts, can I hook the fuel lines back up to the fuel rail, without it being in the intake and prime the lines to look for leaks? I do not see why the injectors would spray if the engine is not running.

The weird part of the ordeal is that the noticeable section where the leak is hitting the ground is right under the passenger's seat.

While I have the fuel rail off, I had another question. I have a brand new set of SVO 24# injectors. I was thinking of installing those in place of my factory 130K mile injectors. Any downfalls to that? I have most of the aftermarket external engine power adders minus forced induction. I have no internal engine modifications except 1.6 roller rockers.

Thanks for any and all replies!

Re: Potential AFPR leak

Are you saying you actually see fuel dripping to the gorund under the passneger seat? The fuel lines are all on the driver's side.

Yes, you can pressure the fuel lines/rails with the rails off the manifold. Just turn it to "run", not to "start". Some people have even allowed the inectors to spray into bottles to check for flow and watch the spray pattern.

Have you checked the vacuum compensation line for the AFPR for wet fuel?

Re: Potential AFPR leak

I have not actually watched it leak there but after I started smelling the gasoline fumes, I looked underneath the car and that was where the wet spot was. I then put my finger in the wet spot and smelled and it was gasoline.

No i Have not checked that line. I am assuming you are referring to the line that connects to the end of the AFPR. I can disconnect and smell the line. I am guessing there should be no fuel smell.

Thanks for your reply!!

Correct. Smell is the first clue, but wet fuel would be even better evidence of a leak. Shoebox has a photo:

I pulled the line off. The end where it connects to the AFPR has a slight hint of gasoline smell. The end where it connects to the intake has no gasoline smell. The end where it connects to the AFPR has been disconnected for about 24 hours now also.

Re: Potential AFPR leak

Well scratch that. I plugged the incoming and return fuel lines back up with the rail off of the intake. I had my wife prime it six or seven times in a row and no leaks. I have no clue now. I had already picked out a new AFPR with gauge and everything. Any suggestions now?
