Opti install, Starter Fire HELP!
Opti install, Starter Fire HELP!
Hey everyone,
So my car has been back firing and dying. also it would take a while to start up so i decieded to swap my opti. I had to put a older one i had on and when i did the car was having a very hard time just cranking, almost as if it was seizing?. Also it caused my started wires to spark and set on fire. Can anyone tell me whats wrong, everything seemed to go very smooth and thats always a problem
. Also would I have to reset the timing?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Opti install, Starter Fire HELP!
I suspect you installed the Opti without indexing it correctly, and the timing it way off, putting a strain on the starter.
To give you accuratehelp, we need to know the year of your car. Set up a "Signature" with the basic info - year, model, engine, trans and any major mods.

Re: Opti install, Starter Fire HELP!
hey thanks,
its a 97 z28 m6. but yeah i figured it had to do with the timing i had this issue with my 76. im just not quite sure how to set up the timing... the engine is actually from a 96 tho.. so in order to set the timing i saw that i had to line up the key way from the cam? is that right. i must have it what like 180 off cause it slid right in.

Indexing the Opti is extremely easy, but also gets screwed up quite often:
