ok i got the msd digital 6
There is a gm plug that makes it a plug and play with no splicing or anything. It is on there web site. I also had to buy some sprinkler drip line to hook up my vacuum line for the boost control if you have that.
I've been through three of these boxes. Nice but don't wear well if abused. Make sure you mount the box with the shock absorbers, away from heat and make sure your hot and ground are rock solid and direct. I ran my hot straight from the battery terminal, with a good ground. By good I mean I took a wire wheel to the frame until I got to bare metal. Make sure you have premium set of plug wires and never turn the engine over without the plug wires hooked to the plugs. Read the directions, red flashing light means low voltage or bad connection. If not abused, a nice unit.
I was referring to the wiring harness that connects the box to the ignition coil. You could replace the coil as well with an MSD unit if you wish, but it won't provide you any real benefits unless your stocker is worn out.
Just stick with the stock distributor and if you do change it, save the money and buy another Delco replacement.
Unless the distributor is broken buying a new MSD distributor will not be an advantage. I am not sure of your application. Does your present distributor have mechanical advance or is it computer controlled? Do you have a high stall converter? If you do then the advance does not matter.
What are you tryiing to do? How fast? What is your goal?
