No start after 685 install

Wired my 685 today getting ready for the spray. Well long story short I went to fire the car and it wouldn't fire. It gave one spit like it was going to but then cut out. Tried a couple more times with no luck. I grounded the box to the block in the engine pay on the pasenger side fender where there are a couple other grounds and Powered it ofdf the positive post on the battery. The box turned on and off as I cycled it with the key.

Also the box had 2 modes one was set at 10.0 and the other 2.0 is there a setting these shoud be at for the car to start. It also woould only go into these two modes. Can I only acsess the window switch and other functions only if they are hooked up.

Went back to the stock set-up and the car fireds right up.

Please any help would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks, Josh

You bought it brand new? Sounds like it could be dead.

Could still be DOA from wherever he got it from. Where is it located?

You should be able to access all the modes, even if they are not hooked up. I would recheck all of your wiring first, make sure it is all correct, especially the part where it connects to the coil portion. If everything checks out, I would start to question the box, it is not uncommon for them to fail.

The part that connects to the coil I used the msd harness.

The weird thing is the msd connector only has one side that connects to the coil. But the stock harness had two one balck and one Grey and the both had pins that connected into the coil.

It is like the msd only hooks into one side.

is this right. and I definetly can only access two modes it seems like.

I am going to check for spark now and I will right back with my conclusion.

Will malloty waranty a box if it is not the original owner?

thanks

Yes, the MSD only connects to one half of the coil. I had to get my 685 rebuilt and it was $30 plus shipping to Mallory.

And you verified the correct wiring from the box to the MSD harness:
MSD to Mallory
Red to Red
Black to Black
White to Green
Orange to Yellow

I got the car to fire with the box. I can access all the modes when the car is running but only two when it is turned off.

I think it was a bad connection where the msd pluged into the stock harness.

I will see how it holds up.

Thanks for the help I appreciate it.

Thats an easy thing to happen. I had a connection come loose that connected to the MSD harness causing the car not to start as well.
