MSD probillit or LTCC ???

What are the pro's and cons to each, how well is the MSD working for everyone, and what do you all need with the LTCC. THANKS

The MSD locks you into a duplicate of your current Optispark based ignition system, with a unit that has yet to be proven any better than the stocker..... court is still out on the MSD, until people start to accumulate big miles on them. There have been problems already with the units.

The LTCC simply requires that your Opti has a healthy optical sensor. Removing the high voltage function from the Opti appears to eliminate a lot of the problems (mines been running on only the optical sensor for more than 6 years now, not with the LTCC though). The optical sensor is capable of 8,000+RPM operation. You get a much stronger ignition system, with the increased dwell time of the 8 individual coils.

Question... With a FI application, is the single coil per cylinder mod an equal option to use of an MSD multi-spark discharge + an enhanced coil output???

To fire a plug under adverse conditions like nitrous of high boost, you need high voltage and a long duration spark. Having 8 individual coils gives each coil 8X as much time (compared to a single coil) to build voltage and discharge the spark. As RPM goes up, the time available for the coil to cycle drops.... increasing that by a factor of 8X has obvious benefits.

I was (remotely) involved with a buildup of a 1350HP Gen 1 SBC for a 30th SS convertible. It was running well over 20psi of Vortech boost on 383ci (class limitations of PRO/Edelbrock Extreme Street), and turning some decent RPM. The ignition was done with 8 LS1-style coils, driven from a MoTeC M8000 and their IEX 8-channel ignition driver..... same setup I have in my lowly 800HP nitrous motor (except for an older MoTeC M48Pro). Same shop has been doing 10-coil systems for high HP Viper engines, with huge nitrous. They seem to feel its the only way to go.
