Mallory HyFi 685 buttons won't work

As stated in the title the buttons on my box suddenly will not press, the box works fine and the car starts, but I cannot navigate the menus. Is there a way to hard reset the box, or any thing else I can do to resolve this?

Have you tried disconnecting the main power and ground leads to the box?

Yeah, It started doing this off and on a few months a go. I then had to tear the box out to troubleshoot an unrelated problem...so it has been disconnected completely for months.

It might be possible that you have a bad box. I've read complaint threads on here with people having Mallory boxes that have had issues or died altogether.

I am sure there is something wrong with it, I would just like to see if there is anything to fix it with out sending it in.

I would think it would have a way to reset it somehow, that might unlock the menus.

I just got the box back from them is what's frustrating. They said it was fine and my miss/dying problem must had been int he wiring. The buttons haven't worked right sense I got it back.

If the problem occured right after they last touched it, then I would send it back. If they opened the box up for diagnostics, it might be possible they may have damaged something.

Okay fixed it. The guys at mallory installed the board in the box incorrectly. The PCB board slides into groves in the box, and has buttons that are suppose to make contact with the decal on the top of the box to make them functional. Problem was that the Mallory techs installed the board in to low of a groove...so the buttons didn't make contact with the top of the box.

I can see they throughly tested this thing when I sent it in, considering they obviously didn't even make sure it worked after putting it back together...

I knew Mallory was the one to blame, but I also knew they would never confess to it.

If you have ever spoken with their techs you would understand. They beleive they can do no wrong, which is why I didn't want to send it in to them. I will bet anything that if I had sent it in they would had told me I must of messed with it and installed the board in the wrong position.

Yea i have spoken with their techs and I can understand where your coming from. I called them after my second box died and he said that the problem was most likely that I didnt have a direct source from the battery for my power wire, which makes sense in a way but have yet to install it and find out. Been almost 4 months.

My new 685 never worked from the get go. Same thing, buttons didn't work. Second box works great, but you have to wonder about their quality control. Nice unit, lets just hope it doesn't let me down.
