Question Ltcc & Msd 6al

Can I use an MSD 6AL with a LTCC setup on my 93 TA?

No, there are no MSD ignitions that are compatible with the LSx coil setup.

But MSD does sell a multiple spark LS1 replacement coil..... pricey though. About $90 each x 8 = $720.

I've seen the LS1 coils support 1,350HP in direct fire on a Dart block SBC 383 running 20+ # of Vortech boost. Not sure why you need an MSD replacement.

Thanks.

Is the spark from the MSD better than a single coil per cylinder setup?
I have the truck coils.

"Better" in what respect? The 8 individual coils allows 8X the dwell time to build up charge in the coils. I figure if they can fire my setup with a 300-shot of nitrous, the stockers can handle whatever you throw at them, without the need for any enhancement.

My original setup was the stock ignition with an MSD-6A box. I eventually replaced it with an Electromotive SDI/Opti-Eliminator, with the 4-coil setup (designed by the same guy that designed the Delteq). With the stroker, I switched to the 8 LS1 coils driven off a MoTeC M48Pro ECU and their IEX 8-channel ignition driver. I copied that setup from a buddy of mine, with a 97 30th SS convertible. He eventually took the car to 1,350HP running low 8's in a 3,500# car. He used the 8 LS1-style coil setup.... Dart Iron Eagle 383 with 20+# of Vortech boost. The only thing he did different with the 1,350HP setup was go to a 16V electrical system.

That's not my car... it was George Baxter's 30th SS. He sold it in 2004, so I don't have much in the way of new pictures . I have digital photos of my car going back to the 90's, and if they are useful in explaining something to somebody, I can't see any point in not using them.

On the other hand, my car spends most of its time in the garage, due to a job that consumes 6 long days every week.

I recently converted to an LTCC w/ the stock GM LS coils. Works great. The couple of shops I spoke to said that the stock style system has
plenty of spark. As Fred stated, no need for high output coils.
Save your dollars.
