Question Help way too much presser in my gas tank.

I started smelling gas and when I got home I heard a hissing sound coming from the tank.
I would think that it was releasing the presser from the vent line very slowly.
So I took my gas cap off and I would say there was at least 15-25 PSI of presser there.
No check engine light on.
Something must not be working but why would my check engine light be off?
Thanks,

There's no diagnostic to set a code for high fuel tank pressure. 25psi would probably cause the tank to deform and buckle outward.... not likely. The pressure in the tank is controlled by the pressure control valve that is part of the EVAP system.

OK so maybe it did not have that much presser but there was alot more that normal.
So I have a bad purge solenoid valve or a bad evaporate presser control valve?
Is there a way to check either valve?
I thought the purge solenoid valve had a code for it because it is a emissions device?
I hope you or somebody can help me out on this one.
I have not had a job in a long time and money is tight but I have to have my car running right.
Thanks,

Its the pressure control valve that controls the pressure, not the purge solenoid. The "purge" pulls fesh air through the carbon canister. Has nothing to do with the tank. The pressure control valve is located between the tank and the canister. It is controlling pressure in the tank, not the canister.

Is there a way of checking the "vent valve"?
Thanks.

Yes I did sorry for the late reply the system is not sending me my e-mail notifications.
The guy that owned the car before me put an amp in the trunk and put tow screws through the top of the gas tank and last time it was down I used some epoxy putty on the holes and it fell off so it was coming out of the holes in the top of the tank.
