New to this, please bear with me....I have a 1999 stock V6 camaro convertible (ya I know, boring).

Other day the engine light came on...checked gas cap (yes I know about this!) took it to my mechanic, he hooked it up to the computer. Computer says it's the gas cap, reset and light went out. Light came back on. Car starts and runs fine, no strange sounds, however when sitting at idle will stall...takes a bit to restart and then runs fine with no problems. Also, not always but sometimes when starting cold it kind of "backfires".

Any suggestions about what this is and/or how to fix? - other than find a new mechanic (hate going to dealership, being female the price goes up!)

Also, when headlights come on dash lights don't. Repalced fuse (3 times) keeps blowing...again, any suggestions?

Yes I know, buy a new car!!
