fuel tank question

fuel tank question

i wanna put a drain plug in my fuel tank so when i go to the track i can drain my gas and put racing fuel in .....and vice versa ...now the question is if i pull my tank drain all the fuel in the tank and fill it up with water ...will it be safe to weld a drain plug in the bottom .......?

interesting, the water won't allow for combustion as long as it's in contact with the metal being welded, but you'd have a hard time keeping the metal molten when the water is trying to quench your weld... and welding gas tanks is inherently dangerous

in the article their main concern is the galvanization, the fumes of which are incredibly toxic, so make sure to grind off the galvanization before welding
