Fuel Pump Replacement for 1997 Z28

Since I bought my car 2+ years ago, I have (more often then not) had to "prime" my engine by first turning my key in the ignition to have the electronics, and the fuel pump come on. Sometimes just doing this once, and then tryin to start it, the car starts, other times it has taken me much longer...For example when i came home from college and my car had been sitting for like 3 months with out it being started, it took 45-40 "primes" with the key = about 15 min. That was ridiculous.

I would also like to note that the car is generally harder to start in the cold weather (I live in MA) and i am bringing my car to school this year so i need to address this issue. Another note is that the shorter the time period since the car's last start the easier it is to start. (probably because there is still pressure in my fuel lines)

Now I am only assuming that this is a Fuel Pump issue. (kind of unrelated but i did replace my fuel filter like a year ago)

Any opinions? How much would is cost to get this fixed... you do have to lower the gas tank to get at the pump, and the pump alone cost $300.

This sucks lol
