fuel level float adjustment

My fuel runs out with the gauge showing 1/8 tank. This happened after the fuel pump had been changed by a garage shortly after I bought the car. I don't think it is the sender but rather how the float is positioned. Because I did not change the fuel pump myself, I do not know how the float mechanism is attached or even if it is adjustable.

Can someone here clue me in on what to expect if I were to pull the pump with the fuel level sender to fix this situation?

I pulled the instrument pod and was going to reposition the fuel level needle but found too much resistance when pulling outward. Simply put, I didn't want to bork my fuel gauge so now I'm wanting to fix the float position within the tank if it can be done. Any info or advice is appreciated. Thanks.

In the forced induction section, there is a sticky at the top for a dual pump setup and theres a pic in there of the pumps/sending unit. You can see the yellowish float on the right hand side of the sending unit. There really isn't an adjustment for it. Wonder if who you had replace it bent the float arm slightly and now it's not reading correctly. Don't know if you have the trap door mod for easy access, but if not, i'd recommend doing it if your gonna be in and out of there.
