Fuel gauge never goes below 3/4

After the new engine and fuel pump were installed, the gauge worked just fine like it always has. The mechanics never put a hose clamp on the line where it connects to the pump and it popped off one day, forcing me to reconnect it myself at a rest stop. If I remember right, I didn't get the buoy back in its cubby hole and it read too low.

Then shortly thereafter, I reset the buoy in the hole where it needed to be and since then, it's read too high. I actually ran out of gas on the highway because the gauge said I had 1/2 a tank. Later, I made absolutely sure the buoy was in its hole and that it wasn't getting caught on anything but it still reads too high.

Sometimes if I take a corner fast and hard, it'll get stuck at 1/2 for a while but then go back to around full.

As it works now, when I fill up with the gauge reading 3/4, I can get 13 gallons of gas in my 15.5 gallon tank. Any ideas?

This will verify if it's the sensor or wiring.. but it sure sounds like a sensor problem.. http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#fuel_gauge

I checked the gauge like shoebox outlined on his site and got 105 ohms with about 3/4 of a tank. I pulled the sending unit assembly out of the tank and the wires weren't damaged, all connections were tight and the thing that the float is connected to (the sender?) was making contact along its whole length. I tried testing the ohms again with the whole thing out and moving the float up and down but was only getting 0? I figured it would've changed with the float position. What do you guys think the problem could be?

I'm curious too. I'm getting 0 OHMS with the pump in the tank....
