fuel filter on work van

I'm working on a 2003 chevy work truck/van and am trying to remove the filter. The only problem is that between the filter and line is about a quarter inch while all the tools are to big to fit in. I've cut the cheap plastic ones down to fit in but still no luck. I guess my question is, does gm make a tool for filter removal or am I missing something to take it out?

Its a special fuel clip. Auto parts stores sell them and autozone rents them for deposit cost

oh and btw, press the line towards the filter, insert the tool down into the line and pull both of them away together.

u can remove it without the tool i worked for gm and all we did was push in the tabs on each side and pull it off then to put the new one on push in on hard and then screw on the other side. sometimes we would get a filter with a different clip so we would use the old one. hope this helps

It's not the one with 2 visible clips. But I called around n found a shop to take care of it. He said he has a skinnier tool to get it. Doesn't sound right but f it it's not my prob any more. Thanks for the help anyway guys.

So i took it to the dealership today and had them do it. They had a tool that was longer and flexible.. They did have to take the fuel line off though just to take the filter off. The problem was at one time somebody else installed it, so it's not factory and used the wrong clip. So now I don't feel as bad for not being able to do it in rushed time before having to go out. Thanks again for the replies and help.
