Pull the engine out. Then you'll have no problem getting to those babies. Sorry, had to do it. Hate to say it, but there really is no easy way to do it. Does it have the factory exhaust manifolds or headers? I have a set of kooks headers now, so its very easy for me, but back when i had my old set of headers and factory manifolds, it helped to pull the altenator out to make it a little easier on the passenger side. A good combination of extentions a swivel for your ratchet will be helpful. Just be careful not to crack any of the new ones tightening them up. Your probably due for plug wires and an Opti if the mileage is high and they've never been changed also.

Red face

do the wires while you at it. SLP makes a 3/8 drive socket head designed for LT1's plugs. if you look around you should be able to find it. Or you could modify one of your own tools to make things easier.

The 1st time i did it i was in 19, in college, and working at a bodyshop. i threw my car up on the frame rack and pounded out 7 in 2hrs. Our body guy had to help me with the no. 8 cyclinder (on PS side closest to radiator) and the two of us got it in a half hr. If you look around here you should find some install pages. They will help.

Be ready for fun.

Whoa whoa whoa there.

Completely unneccesary. It does take a while but this can be done with only the right tools and some swearing, struggling, sweating and band aids. No hole saws required.

I changed mine with factory manifolds. I only had to drop the starter (dual cats). I got all of them from under the car.

As has been said, do the wires too.

From the sound of your experience level, I would plan on the car being down for a weekend just to be safe.

The #8 cylinder is the farthest from the radiator.

And anyway, yeah it might take you a while your first time around. Only tips I can offer is that I find it easiest to do the driver's side plugs from under the car, as well as the #8 plug. The front three on the passenger side I do from above. Also, the #2 plug is easier if you get rid of the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system. Just be patient.
