Angry Can you have good fuel pressure with a bad pump?

I cannot find out where the problem is. Upon startup (cranking), fuel pressure jumps up to around 50ish, then levels off to 45. I have a charged battery, plug wires good, new fuel filter, fuel pump has only a few hundred miles, if even that. It wants to turn over, it just fails. I guess it's ignition problems but the last time I drove, it died out and I rolled Skull-1 to a gas station.

A bad pump can give you the pressure but not the volume you need. It should only effect you when you drive it and a pressure check while driving will show you.

Years ago I had an issue to where the car felt lean when you hit it.

My fuel guage said 43 psi...I would give it gas in the driveway and it held just fine.

So I ran a guage in the car and watched it on the highway and it dropped to 10 psi.

Problem solved.

If could be flooded, your fuel pressure numbers are high if those readings are with the vacuum line connected. Try starting it in the flood clear mode (gas pedal to the floor while starting).

So does this mean I can look elsewhere for the problem instead of fuel delivery? I'm wondering if the regulator might be the problem.

If you have 45psi with the key on (engine not running), the engine shold start. That's an acceptable pressure for no vacuum (since the engine isn't running). And, that pressure indicates the fuel pressure regulator is working. Yes, under load the pump may not be capable of maintaining adequate pressure, but if I read your question correctly your engine will not start. I guess its a little confusing because at one point you refer to "Upon startup", but I think you mean "upon turning the key to the run position" the pump reaches 45psi, not when the engine starts up. Might want to clarify exactly what you mean.

If it won't start, have you scanned it for codes?

I should say "attempting to start the cursed thing". I think Skull-1 is cursed. It revs but never actually starts up, hence my previous fuel problems. I can't get it scanned since I don't have my own scanner and can't get to Auto Zone, and there was no SES light before. I have had missfires come up in scans before though. Any good OBD-II scanning software that has come out recently? I do have a laptop nowadays.

AutoTap, with GM enhanced parameters will work fine.
