Price seems to good to be true. Is it not worth the effort? Anyone ever use them. The sound good on paper. Nice and thick 10.5MM, comes with plastic clips to keep them router properly, they claim super low resistance conductor that's wrapped in a highly durable sleeve. Your thoughts?

Thanks

Sorry, I'll never get over the opti garbage that All Ignition sold to unsuspecting LTx owners years ago. Plus I hate when people demand a 5 star rating from customers. That makes it sound like they really might not like someone's real opinion. Also, bigger insulation and lower resistance wires do not guarantee better performance over something smaller and not as low resistance.

Well for the price, the 90 day guarantee, and the unknown I will give them a shot and report back with my results. I feel confident with the thick insulation - that is what I like about them. I will measure Resistance and report this as well. If they work good it could be a cheap alternative for the budget builds like myself. I am removing MSD 8.5mm now because they were on the car and I do not know how old they are. I am also going to gap the plugs close to keep stress off the opti. I do know what you mean about demanding 5 star reviews. Well ordered a set. :-)

You seem to subscribe to the theory bigger is better, and "cheap" makes it even better. There are far too many very high HP LT1 applications, with powerful ignition systems using 8mm and 8.5mm wires.

Given AIP's past history with the Opti, I personally wouldn't touch them with a 10-ft pole.

Re: Anyone Ever Use AIP Electronics 10.5MM Plug Wires From eBay?
Makes seance, and honestly I don't even know if my MSD 8.5mm are bad or not. I am just sick of my car not running right so I throwing new 02 sensors at it, new plugs and wires, a new coil, perfecting the idle situation (closing throttle plates, drilling IAC port, sealing idle air from getting out of the idle air port at the TB, and getting IAC counts perfect), checking for & fixing any vac leaks, ect.. So i wanted to be prepared if any of the plug wires dont check out when I clean, inspect, and test them. For the price its worth have a few extras laying around - for now I am going to throw them on and see how they are, if they arc I will put the MSD wires back on if they look and test good. But this is the company that made the BS opti units eh. hmm, I did not know that. Well I will post back with results. And yes I am a HuGe sucker for low cost, and the 10.5mm makes me think its more insulated. Hope they are good, but will post back, Thank you for you input. Thank you for your input on this whole forum - you help a lot of people and are very knowledgeable. I think you and shbox deserve a Z28 award!! lol. Thanks

More insulation is all you get with any of these wires. The conductor is still the same. And the larger diameter makes it harder to keep the wires off the exhaust. I ran the Taylor 10.5's with an Opti-Eliminator setup many years ago, but the coils were on the driver's valve cover and routed easilly through the headers from the top. I had the Taylor woven fiberglass fire sleeves on the plug ends of all the wires.

Extra insulation was my biggest concern and when I got them they are so think and look beefy. I'm sure the conductor is not better (if not worse) than the MSD 8.5mm. I am going to gap the plugs small to make it nice and easy on the opti. Im just happy to get a halfway decent spark to the plugs.

ENRKyle20, did you ever measure the electrical resistance of these wires?

I did not, but they are installed and working well, as well as the MSD 8.5mm were, I didnt notice any changes after new plugs and wires. They do not have the test of time yet, but I will keep it updated. I will measure the resistance of the spare wire for the coil.

Are these wires long enough to be routed "over the valve covers", or will they only fit in the stock location? They are pre-assembled, right? This is not a "cut to fit" set, is it?

They are pre-assembled, no cut to fit type deal here. The wires are quite long and I am fairly confident they would run over the covers. I kept them under the exhaust but there is a good extra 8-12 inches on the wires, I actually went under the motor mounts to take up some slack.

I know this may not be a high priority for you, but ........ did you ever measure the resistance of that "spare" coil wire? I also am considering ordering a set of these wires, and ....... I would really appreciate knowing what the resistance/foot of these wires actually is. If you could put an ohmmeter across that "spare" coil wire and pass along its resistance and length .......... that would be GREAT!

TIA for any additional info.

Re: Anyone Ever Use AIP Electronics 10.5MM Plug Wires From eBay?
Quote: Okay, just for the benefit of "future searchers" who may stumble across this thread ...... I received my Ebay AIP wire set today and measured the following resistances:

Wire ..... Length (in Inches) ..... Resistance (in Ohms)

Coil A 11.5 252
Coil B 10.5 223

#1 37.5 1,019
#2 33.5 850
#3 29.0 716
#4 25.0 690
#5 23.0 571
#6 19.3 461
#7 19.0 457
#8 17.0 413

Yes, there are a total of ten(10) wires in the set with two(2) different coil wires being supplied.

And finally, for you "sticklers" for detail, I measured the diameter of all these wires and they are really 10.0mm thick ...... NOT truly 10.5mm!

All in all ..... they look pretty nice for a $39.95 wire set. Can't say anything yet about performance though.
Thank You 97 6Speed Z

Re: Anyone Ever Use AIP Electronics 10.5MM Plug Wires From eBay?
are you running these wires from stock distributor cap and rotor and stock coil? Otherwise I see no use in low resistance cables. If you were perhaps using an msd blaster coil and had an 6A ignition box, wired in with your msd cap and rotor, all being of the low resistance high output energy then there would be a noticeable difference in the use of thicker cables. Personally, if there isn't a discrepancy with the cables you have stick with what you got on there already.
