96 Z28 need help

0441 Code changed just about everthing to do with Evac
when I was changing the canister a large line froming from the top of the tank came off. What does this hose go to? Some say it go nowhere if this is a closed system it has to go somewhere. If it goes to the top of the tank is it possable to do this with out cutting holes in the trunk or complete dropping the tank. The temp is running around 150 to cool, if it sits at a long light it will get to 180+ and it is drinking gas like crazy??????????
thanks

I think that hose goes to the sending unit on top of the tank which has 4 hoses on it. to get it back on there, you're probably looking at dropping the tank a little to see if you can get your hand up there and push it back on if its even possible to do it that way.

Are the lines at the purge valve connected correctly?

And when you mention "The temp is running around 150 to cool, if it sits at a long light it will get to 180+ and it is drinking gas like crazy??????????" I assume you are talking about the coolant temp? Are you reading that temp off the dash gauge, or off the PCM, using a scanner?

Re: 96 Z28 need help

Not to get off track, but Rob's site does not list a P0441 for LT1, it lists it as a P0440. Internet search on P0441 says vacuum switch does not sense vacuum when EVAP solenoid is commanded on -OR does sense vacuum when EVAP is not commanded on. I know the '96-'97 OBD2' are sort of unique and I don't have a '96 Service Manual to verify the code on them. Could this be a clogged line at the vacuum switch or solenoid. I did not think the LT1 OBD2's were smart enough to actually test EVAP like the LS1 and up OBD2's. http://shbox.com/1/1996_evap.jpg

Re: 96 Z28 need help

The GM tech website has the code lists for various years, and it shows P0441 for the 96 LT1 as installed in the F-Body. Rob's (Shoebox) list has P0441???? He does not show P0440.

P0400 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system
P0403 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) solenoid control circuit
P0410 Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system
P0412 Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system control circuit
P0420 Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) system low efficiency Bank 1
P0430 Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) system low efficiency Bank 2
P0441 Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) system no flow (during purge)
P0443 Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) purge solenoid control circuit
P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) circuit (manual transmission only)
Here's the GM list for the 96:
