1968 302 timing

Hi all,
I have a 1968 302. I'm looking for some help for proper timing setting.
The engine has 11:1 pistons, 30-30 cam, 800 holley, winters hi-rise, camelback heads. I have a slight problems with it sputering after engine shutdown. The timing was at 14, and was turned back to 8, this didnt help. I thought I'd throw it out to you guys for some advice before I start adjusting too much. Thx

Re: 1968 302 timing

It is more a problem of having the throttle blades slightly open when you turn off the ignition. One fix is an idle solenoid like they used to use on cars with AC to bump the idle when the AC was turned on so the car wouldn't stall. Only you would use it to close the blades when the ignition is turned off. The Holley solenoid is like $70 though, and that's a ripoff. If you look up the parts and understand the concept of what I'm talking about, maybe you can adapt one on there for less money than that. My buddy built an old Nova which has the same problem - not sure what he's going to do about it yet.
