Thumbs down Z28 runs bad after solid intake install

I just had a muffler shop install a 3.5" solid intake for my Vortech s-trim, they also hollowed out my cat converter. When I take off from a stop the car pulls hard until 3500 rpms, then it falls on its face almost like im hitting a rev limiter. My Crane ignition retard **** lights up when it happens, but I checked for knock retard with a scan tool and it checked out ok. Checked my fuel filter its ok. Is 3.5" too big of a intake pipe?? any ideas

also it only happens when I punch the throttle, if I ease into it it runs ok. WOT it falls on its face until I shift then will do it again in every gear when it hits around 3500rpms. The car is a 96Z28 with a 6-speed.

2 things I can think of happening.

- For some reason the pipe is restricting airflow? (Maybe an extreme tight radius 'cheated' bend right off of the blower)

- You are drawing through the MAF (maf is pre-blower), and there is an air leak, or MAF sensor wires were damaged during the install.

I already checked the MAF wiring and for vacuum leaks, but I will pull the pipe off and check for a restriction. thanks for your input

another this is...that I eliminated the PCV pipe from the Intake tube to the valve cover. Would this make any difference??

Are you saying that you pulled your PCV line off the intake and Valve cover and just plugged up the valve cover. I am not sure that would cause your problem but you DO need to VENT that off of the valve cover. I used a line from the Valve cover and vented it to atompshere otherwise you would have too much pressure in the crank case.

Thanks,
Claude

95 SilverTA.. I just removed it from the SC intake pipe and put a little filter on the valve cover.

I pulled off the cold air pipe today and checked it out. I looks really good with no restrictions. I wonder if 3.5" intake pipe is too big for 6# of boost. I am going to put the stock intake ducting back on to see if my problem goes away.
