your thoughts on intercoolers

I came across the PWR liquid to air intercoolers and wondered if anyone had anyone had experience with them.

PWR's website is here. There's a picture of the different sized barrels in the upper right. The large 6" diameter ones have 3" inlet/outlet, flow 920 CFM, and range from 6-10 inches (15-19 inches overall length). Their kits come with everything to to hook them up (except the tubing from super/turbo charger to intake, which would be custom for every application anyway.

The only place I could find them for sale is here:

$1000 for a liquid to air intercooler, radiator, fan, pump, and hoses doesn't sound too bad, but I think this kit would be maxed out pretty quickly with boosted V8s (due to the CFM limitation). It definitely has it's plus in that it's tiny compared to any decent air to air intercooler.

Anyway, just wanted to get some thoughts and comments on it, especially if someone here is using one.

Looking at the CFM ratings of the biggest one listed, 1120 cfm, that would be good to around 750-800. Thats with figuring 1.4-1.5cfm for every 1 HP. Maybe you could call the company and see if they did any test to see what the pressure drop is.

i bought one from a vendor off of ebay. I am going to be testing the 6 x 10 version. The person i bought it from feels they are underrated cfm wise. He thinks (through calculations i can dig up in old emails) that the 6 x 10 version should be good for a V-8 up to almost 1000-1100hp

Like i said i am going to be testing it and recording IAT temps before/after and also boost before/after to see what will happen.
I should have results in a couple months when i get up and running and wire up my datalogger

So if you can hold off up until then, i'll make a post and everyone can read

lastly this will be on my tt355:

twin 60-1s
355sbc
fully ported track 1 heads 282/215 @ .500
mild flat tappet cam

we'll see what happens

lastly, i forgot to mention that the intercooler ends have a bead all the way around for secure connections which is really nice

I'm in no big hurry, just shopping around. I really like the design, size, and that it's liquid to air. I'm pretty sure it'll do a much better job at cooling than an intercooler twice its size -- But like you, I'd love to know what the pressure drop is like. I think I read that it's 1# on the biggest size ones, but I'd like to see some real numbers.

I'll keep an eye out for your findings. I hope you love itause I'll probably be sold on it then.

Yup....like i said within 4-8 weeks i should have some test results. I have a cheap datalogger that i am using for pre boost and pre intercooler temps and im using my FAST unit for after cooler boost/iat temps

should be interesting to see what happens

The main reason why i am doing this is because the distributor wanted to try and start selling to the v8 crowd and he needed a guinea pig. If it ends up not being able to keep up i'm getting my money back as well so its a win-win for both of us
