ya or nay on sts turbo
Re: ya or nay on sts turbo
I have the sts kit on my 94 lt1. Love the kit. One of the best choices I made. Makes amazing power and torque. Car runs cool all day long with the turbo. Only part I dont like is how low my turbo hangs. I have exactly 2 1/2" of ground clearance. Exactly ---- Had no problems with anything yet. But as far as the performance and looks I could not be any happier with these systems - Mike
Re: ya or nay on sts turbo
Both the pipe that runs to the SFC pipe (LS1 kit) and turbo it self could hang low depending on installation. Fitment on the pipes can be adjusted to fit better and I-pipe position to the turbo can be positioned for optimal ground clearance. There still is a chance for some thing to hit it, as well as other moded parts (FMIC), but so far in 3 years I have been good. A mod i have done to prevent damage is replace the old worn out bump stops with some custom aluminum/dense rubber stops. These will only allow my car (which is lowered) to go so low before bottoming out on the bump stops and not any other moded component in the rear.
Re: ya or nay on sts turbo
Since you're in EPA I'd be careful not to have your stuff stolen :P. Just kidding with you but your in the bay area and if smog is a concern I would go with the STS kit since you aren't relocating/deleting the cat. This is most likely why I'll be going with the STS kit otherwise I would go with a standard front mount turbo setup, aka PTK setup. I remember there was an awesome deal going on with the STS kit when it was somewhat new but it seems those prices no longer come up. Good luck in your decision and let me get a test drive since your close by :P.
