who has experience with EGT?

Is anybody here running an EGT probe? I need to know what temp ranges you have found to be safe and where you placed the probe.

According to my EGT:
I am idling around 1000 F with AFR = 14-15 and timing is in the low 20's;
cruising around 1240 F with AFR = 14-15 and timing is 38-40 range;
partial throttle 1400 F with AFR = 14-15 (i forget the timing)
Full throttle 1600-1700 F with AFR starting at 11.0 and leaning towards 12.5 due to loss of fuel pressure @ 24* timing.

All timing tables are stock except under boost conditions.

Probe is about 6 inches after the 4 primaries have collected (this is on realquick's stock cast turbo manifold).

I've read EGT's are normally LOWER when you locate the probe close to the head in a primary tube which makes me wonder if these high temperature readings I am getting are normal for that location.

As you said, location means a lot. These numbers seem normalish for me. So with some back to back dyno pulls you probably see a little orange glow.

I have found that adding just a little extra fuel makes a huge difference. I have seen going from 15 part throttle to say 14 drop the temperature a couple hundred degrees. I haven't done a lot with the stock pcm but I basically shoot for cruise to be as lean as I can get it and still not surge or cause issues. Then I will get my part throttle and anything above say about 2200rpms a bit richer.

WOT another degree or two of timing *could* help cool it if all else is working right. It may not, everyone is different. Fixing the fuel issue will probably help too.

And while the setup functions, remember we are not very efficient - backpressure means more heat.

yeah, i am thinking about adding a little more timing WOT after I take care of the fuel pressure problem. I'm only running 4psi right now so it should handle more timing.

How much timing are you running at partial throttle? Maybe you could just send me a screen shot of your timing map in jpeg format.

I'm not really sure how to handle the partial throttle stuff because i see greater than atmospheric MAP at 25% throttle just trying to accelerate from 45-55mph, ya know? Do you want a power enrichment type AFR (12:1) and around 30 degrees of timing at light load while you're seeing boost, or do you want like a 15:1 AFR with 35-40 degrees?
