Question Whats the advantage of a charger over nitrous?

I am looking into getting rid of my n20 and buying a charger and was wondering if there is any advantage to this idea. I was planning on getting powerdyne 6psi with a intercooler from procharger. Will I gain any thing over my 125 shot right now.

Power when you want it, and no need to fill a bottle?

Biggest thing is that the power is always there, no running out of bottle.

i made the same move you want to with my ls1.

It's always there, it sounds wicked, it gets more attention, it makes more power safely, and its just cool as can be. When I ran nitrous, or told people I had it, the reaction was "Oh yeah, nitrous". But with the supercharger, it's more like "COOL, can I have a look and/or go for a ride".

6lbs of boost will not have as great an effect on performance as a 125 horse nitrous shot. Even if you gained 125hp with the 6lb blower (which you will not), that hp gain is only at the top of the rev range. The nitrous adds a huge slug of torque in the midrange, just where you need it. Have you ever noticed the relatively slow ET/hp for a centrifugal car? The shape of the power curve is the reason.

Nitrous plus a blower is the best of both worlds.

Boost never stops you can raise and lower it with a simple pully change. Dont have to worry about filling bot, and it can be very reliable hp for a daily driver if tuned right. Its kinda like bolt on CUBES. Rich is right though 125shot will give better ets and hp/tq. Rich I see your using the word slug ever so often .

Rich is right. I'm making 476/525 on 7lbs with a T63 turbo. It would be closer to matching nitrous than a charger. Nitrous is an extremely effective power adder and can't be matched for the buy-in. It's just a pain in the butt... fill the bottle... fill...fill..fill. I also don't care for the effects of a binary 150-up SLAM on the reciprocating assembly, clutch, trans, driveshaft, ring and pinion, and last... tires. Doesn't help traction much.

All those drawbacks are dismissed with a good charger. The hit on the tires is much softer, and it's always there.

I'll give up the difference on the strip - considering all the fun I have on the street where I spend 99.99% of my time. Don't get me wrong, I love nitrous. I've used it on different cars since 1984. It's GREAT fun, and simply the best bang for the buck.

But the blower is just more liveable for the day-to-day, and like I said it gets more attention at shows/races/gatherings/etc. I do miss that nitrous BAM torque down low, but it's easy to forget when you feel the pull of a blower up top.

I kept my nitrous on just in case I ever have the ***** to try it. Those factory internals are pretty good with either nitrous or a supercharger, but my confidence isn't there for BOTH.

You would blow up a piston.. Hyper slugs and boost just dont work well. Add in the compression factor and your looking for problem. I would get some forged pistons at min and lower comp

It costs more, takes longer to put on, toasts ringlands, requires a ton of extra money in misc things, slower, scares away races, sucks in the heat, sucks at high elevations...

Oh wait... you wanted to know why superchargers were better?

Let's see.... 16 year olds think you are cool, chicks dig them, not as many people have them, you never have to refill the bottle (just change the oil), uhhhh did I mention chicks dig them?

Chicks don't even know what superhargers are. Also I have many people in a car club with a stock bottom end and a charger and have no problem I think you just listen to what other inexperenced board members have to say and feed off of that Stock bottoms can handle boost. I just talked about that in a tread earlier.
