Hi all, i'm new here and i'm getting ready to buy a turbo but not sure what to buy. I have a small block chevy 383, dart block, pro1 dart 215cc heads, scat crank and rods, J/E pistons(8.5.1). I still need a Cam and Turbo. My goal is to make my 3100lbs street car run 8.20 or faster . What Turbo and Cam would you all go with size, brand, intercooler? Thanks for any help.

I figure 8.20 needs about 168 mph. At 3100 lb and 168 mph, the hp needs to be around 1150 hp. A T-76GTS chokes at 1100-1200 hp, but I haven't heard of anyone going that quick with one. A T-88 isn't much better because its limit is 1250 hp. A sure bet would be to step up to a T-91 (significantly larger T-6 frame) that will support 1550 hp.

What brand would you buy? I was looking at a GT 5588. What do you use to figure out what horsepower i need to go 8.20's?

Don't forget the 25.5, or is there a different cert sense it's only 3100#'s. I know 25.5 is for up to 3600#'s down to 7.50's. certified cage your going to need to run 8.20's. That's another ~$8k. I would agree with the 91mm turbo also, Precision turbo makes a nice one.

Atleast a 91mm at that raceweight...I would contact Jose @ Forcedinductions.com and ask if he has a special turbo.

 

I dont run any classes, i just go to see how fast i can go. Cage is cert to 8.50

another vote for Jose, I am sure he will point you to the S95, I have one coming soon but you won't find that turbo on their website. It is top-secret
