what cid is best for a blow thru set 370 thru 434cid

I'm new to the turbo world.I was wondering what cid would work the best with a t76.mostly racecar to grude race with.I'm looking for 1000 rwhp.I'm also looking at mounting it behind the rearend.sort of like the sts systems.
the car is a 85 camaro,9 inch ford power glide trans.the car is gutted but I'll clean it up some.the reason for mounting it in the back is for the weight.no other reasonI would post a picture of my hotrod but I'm not to sure how.thanks

If you're talking about a 76GTS like mine, most will recommend 370 cid or smaller. However, I've had pretty good luck with my 388, though.

And a word of advice, MOUNT IT UP FRONT. Going to the rear will only hurt you.

Oh, and I don't know of any 76 mm turbo that will reach 1000 rwhp through a powerglide.

well I can't wait to see.I should have my motor in 4 to 6 weeks.this turbo
is a large frame from what I was told.it's the only one I have and I don't plain on purchasing another one.as far as mounting it in the rear is more a tought.I just hate to hang it over the front axle. the car needs to be lite and work great b/c I'm running small tires.295/60r15s
I saw a 4th gen with a turbo mounted where the heater box was.I'm sure alot of mods were done to mount it there but atleast it wasn't over the front axle.
thanks,
Scott
I'm shooten for low 5s in the 8th can it be done?

Most 76 mm turbo's are only good for 950 - 1100 hp. Some of the large frame ones are good for up to 1250. These numbers seem legit, so you do the math on whether or not it will meet your goals.

If you mount the turbo at the rear, you'll be losing more power and spool than the weight transfer can make up for. The guys with the larger rear-mount turbo's are having to use small exhaust tubing and insulate it to get spool. The ones that spool quick are little T-67 P-trim turbo's on 360+ cid.

well to help with the weight transfer I went an aluminum block,I plain on giving the guys at pa racing a call for even more lite weight goodies...
I will wind up with the turbo up front I'm for sure of that.I hate to build custom headers.do you think 11/2 tubes would kill the 406 cid. I know my engine builder called Steve P. not to ask about tube size but for the best all round cid for what I'm going to do.which is grude race the car.. this is my first turbo combo,I have always used nos.

I know folks have gone 8's on 1 5/8" tubes, but I haven't heard of any really fast cars running 1 1/2". In theory, it should be fine since the exhaust gas is very compressed vs. NA or Nitrous. In practice, the tubes have to match up to the head ports without any sharp corners at reductions in diameter.

thanks for the replies, weight is hard on parts.the faster you go you have more carnage you'll have.I used to race in a street series and the rules changed for all the big block cars to add 200 lbs.I did and the car picked up 8 hundreds of a second .I told them thanks b/c there was no way in h*** I would ever add that much...so it worked out me that time.
thanks again and when I learn how I'll post a pick at my car.it's not much to look at but it has a few goodies and a few more to come..
Scott
