What is the best supercharger?

If money was not an issue, and you were set on buying a supercharger for your LT1, what would you buy, and why?

Looking for opinions on the best overall supercharger.

Re: What is the best supercharger?

Opinions vary widely on this and it's been discussed many times before.

If money were no object, I'd get the Vortech YSi trim blower. It's not too difficult to install on an LT1, will support 1200 hp, and has a peak efficiency of 78%, which even surpasses some of the better turbochargers.

Re: What is the best supercharger?

Let me be a little more specific. What would be your choice if you did NOT want the full race superchargers that pumped out the insane, almost non streetable power (ex. YSi, or Procharger's F1). Looking for opinions on superchargers more in the power making range of Prochargers D1SC, or Vortec's T-trim.

Re: What is the best supercharger?

Well the question then becomes, which is better, a D1SC or a T-trim?

I prefer the T-trim. I believe the self-contained oiling system is over-rated. Vortech publishes the compressor map for the T-trim and it's respectable. Also, I like a water/air intercooler over air/air any day.

People have opinions both directions, but you won't find a back-to-back comparison of the two blowers with all things being equal.

Vortech did a scientific-looking comparsion between an S-trim and a P1 (I think) and the S-trim smoked it in all areas, but the test was performed by Vortech so it may be biased.

ATI did a track test of theirs versus Vortech. However, they used an intercooled Procharger versus a non-intercooled Vortech. Which one do you think won? Duh!

It's hard to believe polls when they come from the company trying to sell you on their product. Thats more or less why I am asking this question to people here on the board, instead of asking different supercharger companies. This way I get individual opinions, not biased ones from someone looking to make a profit.

As far as product goes, Vortech hands down. I like their brackets/tensioner setup alot better than the ATI stuff.

For a street driven car, I like the ProCharger air-air intercooler system.
Basically mantenance/trouble free. For a track car, I like Vortech's air-water system
since you can ice down the water and create a high temperature differential which would
really improve the intercooler's heat transfer.

You should consider this:

Some guy over on LS1tech.com just made over 650 rwhp with a T-trim on his LS1.

Re: What is the best supercharger?

I've had a Procharger (P600B) and a Vortech V2 on my LT1. I like the vortech better with the air to water intercooler. It seemed to make a lot more torque, especially on cool days.

Same here, and yeah, the tensioner is off a Ford diesel truck. The Ford can easily be ground off though.
