Vortech Ultra-Grip Pulleys & Blower Overspeed
Vortech Ultra-Grip Pulleys & Blower Overspeed
I am running a T-trim with 6.66/2.75 pullies, which, according to Vortech gives me a impeller speed of 55,000 at max rpm. Also according to Vortech, the max safe speed for a T-trim is 55,000.
I was looking at getting the 7" crank pulley since people have good luck on the S-trim with this and the T should respond even better. At the same time, I was going to switch to Reichard Racing Ultra-grip pulleys since I have reason to believe my belt is slipping. However, Reichard recommended sticking with the 6.66" crank pulley and going to a smaller 2.6" Ultra-grip blower pulley. He said they supply blower pulleys down to 2.5" with no problems. Anyone heard of taking this approach?
Also, this will put my blower speed at 58,000, which is over Vortech's limit. Allegedly, the Renegade cars are running their blower waaaay over Vortech's limit and have really good results. Anyone else have experience with this?

Re: Vortech Ultra-Grip Pulleys & Blower Overspeed
i would go with a larger crank pulley rather than a smaller blower pulley, especially if you happen to be using a 8 rib setup. more surface area on the belt is always better. i was actually running a 8" crank pulley on my T-trim 8 rib setup, with a 2.95 blower pulley. no slip
Re: Vortech Ultra-Grip Pulleys & Blower Overspeed
I understand that the larger crank pulley gives you more belt contact surface area, but the ultra-grip pulley is supposed to do away with belt slip.
Re: Vortech Ultra-Grip Pulleys & Blower Overspeed
I had almost the same problem, same combo heads cam stroke just sq trim.
Thought that the head unit was to small since I was using a 7.2 3.12 pulley combo. Used locktight belt prep and beltslip gone, used it on a friends superchared mustang he couldent run better than 12.0 because of belt slip sprayed the locktight night before track day and no slip 11.4
I just bought a t trim how much boost do you see with that pully combo, I have a perf estimate from vortec and they think I should see 18 -20 pounds at the discharge pipe.

They spin them very fast, but the life of the impeller is pretty short on the Renegade cars, so keep that in mind. Also, you will get increased IAT's by over-speeding the blower. So even though you will see more boost, you may not see more hp. It's only about 5% over, so it may work. You'll have to try it and see. A friends car made the same hp at 20psi as 25psi for exactly that reason.

Rich, the efficiency islands for the T-trim show 70% past 2.2 Pr (17.5 psi). I imagine that it wouldn't fall that much above there.
This is very interesting and backs up my suspicions.
I'm seeing 13 psi at 6500 rpm. [disclaimer]According to the Vortech compressor maps[/disclaimer], the S and T trim blowers make the same amount of boost at any point in the operating range. The advantage of the T is that it's more efficient at higher flows and boost levels. For instance, at 630 gm/s and 16 psi, the T trim is 70% and the S is in the low 60's. This equates to lower discharge temp's.
I doubt you'll see 18 - 20 psi - maybe with "slip-b-gone".

Re: Vortech Ultra-Grip Pulleys & Blower Overspeed
The product I used is made by locktight and I picked it up at a commercial parts jobber, it really did work for me. I sense sarcasm but the spray and a glassbeading of the pulleys did eliminate my belt slip issues.
The 18 pounds of boost vortec said I should see is at the supercharger discharge not the intake. What I was wondering is if I now see 10-11 pounds with an s trim will I not be able to make more boost with a t.
Mike I have almost the same combo as you ( same dur cam but solid rollor same heads ) how is your t pulleyed when you see 13 pounds boost.I have almost the same amount of boost with my sq and if thats the case I just burned 3000$

Re: Vortech Ultra-Grip Pulleys & Blower Overspeed
I'm being a little sarcastic about the belt spray because it's not conventional, but I don't doubt that it works.
I'm making 13 psi with a 6.66 and 2.75 pullies. The T should not make more boost than the S or SQ, but it should make it more efficiently at any given compressor speed. The T has a higher max also and doesn't lose efficiency as quickly when you overspeed it.

I received my 2.5" Reichard Racing Ultra-Grip pulley today, and I must say that it's a very impressive piece. Jim Reichard is one helluva nice guy also. I'll try it out tomorrow. My calc's say it should be worth nearly 3 psi, for about 15.5 psi total, or 17 psi if I remove the intake duct.
