Vortech A-trim
Vortech A-trim
I just recently picked up a used Vortech kit at a price that was too good to pass up. Inspecting the charger, it looks to be an a-trim, from what I have found on here in my searches and on vortech's website. They do not list an LT1 kit with the A-trim though, but did they have one a few years ago maybe?
Mine meets the dimensions for an A-trim that I found here:
http://web.archive.org/web/200302012...rformance.html
And it has 12 blades that are straight...sound like an A-trim?
What kind of boost can I get out of an A-trim? 8-10psi? After I do my motor build up (ported heads, cam, forged bottom end) Will I be looking to upgrade to an S-trim if mine is indeed an A-trim?

Re: Vortech A-trim
yeah i had the same kit you can have them upgrade it to a s-trim for a cost around $300 if i remember correctly just call vortech. And if it does have the strait non curved blades it is indeed an a-trim as far as the boost level all the info is on vortechs website as far as the blower apex specs
Re: Vortech A-trim
Vortech will give you $1000 towards a NON-HD S-TRIM or $750 towards the HD S, T, YSi, ect. (provided it passes inspection)
So there are two options for the non Heavy Duty S-trim:
1. Exchange your A for a non-HD S with $1000 subtracted from retail price.
-$972
2. Have your A rebuilt to non-HD S-trim specs.
-$990
Either way is a good bet.
I have an A-trim with 3.33/6.66 pullies. Ported heads, cam, 9:1, Headers....basically a mild blower setup w/ all decent bolt-ons. It makes 5psi on the gauge. I just ordered a 2.95 blower pulley from ASP which puts the A-trim 3.85% over the redline speed at 6000 engine rpm.
I'll repost in a month or so when the car goes on the road w/ the new pulley.

Re: Vortech A-trim
weird, about four years ago they charged me $760 to upgrade my A to an S-trim. It looked like they opened up the inducer opening and installed a different impeller. Inflation seems kinda high out there in cali.
I am done with their rebuilds, that service is a figgen joke. I have done it twice and my blower leaks oil into the intake less than 6 months later. It leaked 3 months after the upgrade. A local guy has rebuilt his himself and I am about to give it a try.
$300 BS.

Re: Vortech A-trim
The prices I quoted of $970, 990 were as of this Monday (3/15/06), according to Vortech.
Interesting about your rebuild saga, Flip94ta.
What kind of warrenty does Vortech give on these exchanges or upgrades?

Re: Vortech A-trim
This is some good info guys. I think I'll stick with the A-trim for now, but when I get my new motor finished I'll upgrade to the S. I need to measure my pullies that I got with the kit...might try to do that tonight.

I did state "if i remember correctly" which i guess i didnt i also told the guy to "call vortech" its been 10 months since i sold the kit because i didnt want to hassle with it and went N/A all they were gonna do is change the impeller and housing on the head unit i had
Ive also seen on E-bay broken head units with the S-trim impeller and housing and swap it over yourself Vortech would not sell me the parts to change it myself
