Vortech Clearance

Happy New Year!

I had purchased a Vortech supercharger system from a member of a Camaro message board back in August. I have finally found some time to install it. The seller told me it came off of a camaro. The supercharger says V-1 on it and does not seem to fit due to the ABS unit on the drivers side frame rail. I have found many kits to delete the ABS unit that include a proportioning valve and such.

I do not want to delete my ABS system as this car is still a cruiser.

If the ABS system was relocated the supercharger would fit perfectly between the block and the frame rail. I thought a good place for relocation would be where the stock airbox was located since I am not using that system any longer.

I find it amazing that Vortech makes no mention of this issue - I do have a V-1 super and the install manual he sent was for a V-2... so I am not sure if vortech is to blame here.

Please let me know if there are any kits made to do this or am I just going to have to extend all the electrical and brake lines to move the unit.

Thank you for any input.

Brad

It was mentioned that the V-1 could be "reclocked" -what does this mean?

I was also told that the V-1 SHOULD NOT have clearance issues.

Help vortechers -

car is a 1993 camaro LT1

It's possible that the previous owner reclocked it before you got it and thats why it doesn't fit now. It should fit. I'm assuming the outlet is hitting the ABS control unit. there are thin brackets going around the outter housing of the charger on the pulley side. There held on with allen head screws. Losen them all up and you can spin the 2 halves of the charger housing (reclock it). When mounted in the bracket and on the engine, the outlet should be pointing slightly toward the driver valve cover. Kinda around the 11:30 position, or just enough to clear the ABS. Try it out and you'll know what i'm talking about pretty quick. It's easy. hope that helps.
