thanks
so what if your only 16, i just turned 20 and i built this, its nothing you cannot do as well....i got all the tools from, harborfreight.com ...header j bends from headersbyed.com and the flanges off ebay ...started on it in feb., but had a bad motorcylce accident in may so i couldnt work on it for like 2 months, so really it took me about 6 months, but if i had the tools and money i could do it again in about 2 weeks

p.s. what did you do with the alternator? what brackets did you use?

Essentially for the time it would take a person to build you one, on a one-off basis like his, it really wouldnt be worth it for either of you. You'd be at the point where you would just want to buy a kit like a PTK. Alot more than 500$ labor to say the least IMO...

Re: Twin Turbo

Nope, they don't really need to make one since their single kit is capable of over 1200 hp with the right turbo. I'm sure for the right amount of cash and with your car to prototype on, they would probably build you a kit.

Alas, I have no twin turbo Camaro, just an S10 with a set of hair dryers. One day I may even finish it.

isnt there an advantage with twin though? like you get more rpm ranges where it works like the lower too, and less lag since 2 small ones not one big one?

Re: Twin Turbo

I love how people believe that anyone can build a GOOD turbo kit for an LT-1. Going turbo is VERY expensive ( if done right). I would go with PTK, which I have done. YOu will spend 4,599 for the kit without a turbo. You will need to figure in a engine build, forged parts, fuel system, 12bolt or 9 inch rear, stock reprogrammed or aftermarket computer. And this can get more expensive when you want more HP! If you havent ever built a turbo kit I would buy one. Actually even if you have I would buy atleast the hot parts from PTK. I have YET to see anyone on here even that has a home built kit that looks as good as PTK's stuff. 100% tig welded absolutely beautiful. Almost a shame that you have to bolt it onto a dirty automobile They have several customers making 1,000+rwhp with there gen1 and gen2 kits in F-bodies not to metion all of the hundreds of mustangs running around.

Re: Twin Turbo

Building a good turbo kit for an LT1 isn't exactly hard. Building it so that it fits in the 4th gen engine bay and retains all the accessories is a royal PITA.

Amen!

I was gonna find INTMD8's car cause its a wonderful example of packaging for a twin setup but then on their main page... BAM! Turns out LS1speed has women now
So I got distracted.....

Some shots of when I was first fitting things under the hood, just before the alternator went back in and the brakes lines got replaced w/linelock...

Cram much?(copynpaste)
Ouch1
Ouch2
Yes, the hood does close!

And I'm rewelding that intercooler before you say anything.
Its so obnoxious sticking stuff under the hoods of our cars I'm amazed we can do as much as we can. Pat ourselves on the back here guys - GM didnt make it easy for us!

Edit:Found the pics I was looking for!

And for sheer "holy cow" factor:

That has got to be one of the most impressive twin turbo lt1 installs I've ever seen. Got the left intake pipe right around the alternator and everything.

Going Turbo isn't that expensive if built right. I can make a set of stainless headers for under $1000 complete. Thats the hardest part of a turbo kit. The rest is all 2.5 and 3 inch tubing. I was able to make my kit AND buy forged engine parts all for under $4000. Mine is all tig welded as well. I just could not see paying someone $4500 for a kit without a turbo. The materials for that kit are probably near $1000 with the tubing flanges, wastegate, BOV intercooler core and sheet aluminum. Your paying $3500 for someone to do some cutting and welding. Congradulations! IMO anyone can bolt on a turbo kit and go around saying how good it is, IMO not anyone can build a turbo kit. Look at SLEEPERZ28's kit. He MIGed it all, and ground down the welds, not the prettiest thing around, but he made over 1000 to the ground with it. I guess what I'm saying is some people take pride in making their own stuff. I've seen pics of ProTurbo's TIG welding and to be honest I wasn't impressed. I've done better Maybe that was a prototype system and things didn't fit exactly like a jiged production system, I don't know.

FWIW for the 3500 you spend for PTK to weld together your sysem, you can purchase a good TIG welder, and pay for a class to teach you what to do, buy a portaband saw, chop saw, small air compressor, a die grinder, and a small rotary disc sander, and you would be in possession of nearly all the tools to build anything you need for a turbo kit. Plus if you ever wanted to change anything, you could do it yourself. Screw production Kits
