Turbo Ls1 Help

I have a 2000 camaro z28 with around 53,000 miles on it and i was wondering if it would be safe to put a turbo in it. Or if it would be better to supercharge it. I am concerned about the engine blowing or the transmission going but my friend tells me it should be fine because its a sports car and was made to go fast. But im just unsure and was concerened. thank you.

no and no
Well honestly those are the short answers, if you want the long answer you have a lot of reading and brain storming to do. Just judging by the post you don't have much of an idea what you are getting into.

The made to go fast argument means jack in the world of FI. You have a high (relatively) compression motor that was never designed or intended to see boost. Safe is leaving it in the garage, and having good home owners insurance incase the house falls down.

Can't speak much on the transmission because I don't know what you have. 6 speed will hold the power if you don't abuse it but a stock clutch wont, auto will need attention at some point.

It's never "safe" to boost a stock motor. That being said, there are plenty of people who have made their stock bottom end last under a good amount of boost. I suggest you do your research before even thinking about a FI project.

Don't listen to your friend!

Ask questions like you're doing. You can run a limited amount of boost on stock motors. 6psi on LT1's, maybe 8psi if intercooled and/or water/alky injected.

It's not safe as others stated because you have cast pistons which will break if severe detonation occurs. If you can get enough fuel in there with a good/safe tune you'll be okay on low boost.

For the cost of a supercharger kit or turbo kit, you may be better served with a good cylinder head and cam package depending on what you want.

With any change to your car - make sure you know what you're getting into.
