Turbo Kit?

Who makes the cheapest turbo kit on the market today for the LT1?? How much and what does it all include?

Does any company sell just the manifolds, piping and intercooler? I am curious as to how much this would go for.

Just doing a little research and need some places to look.

Re: Turbo Kit?

I would say that it is going to be hard to find a "cheap" turbo kit, forced inductiuon in general is very expensive. PTK is going to be about the best that you can get and it is pretty pricey, but again, it's a very good kit. I would say that most of the kits that you see on here other than the PTK are home built. There are some guys on here that have done some killer kits on their own and I have seen some using manifolds or SLP type headers. You may want to do a search and see if you can find them or maybe they will chime in and give you some guidance. I think that there is another vender here on the board that is in the developement stage on an LT1 kit.

PTK, Turbo technology Inc (TTi), and STS...those are the three. Two are front mounts and one is a rear mount. I am building my own kit using SLP dual cat headers (like Jordon Musser), however, my turbo is mounted somewhere else.

Please say you aren't using those cheap SLP headers... They have about the worst design I have ever seen

They are better than log manifolds, but obviously not as good as normal turbo headers (individual runners). Those of you that have seen dual cat SLP's know what smoknz and I am talking about.

Mike, are you using the dual cat header or the single cat one? The single cat header is a great header. The dual cat one has two primaries merge into one and the other two merge into one. Then those two tubes merge into the collector. A much less "true header" design than the single cat setup. I think it is not an optial header, but it should work fine. i just want to know if smoknz has had bad experience he can share...

Re: Turbo Kit?

Sounds like mine is single cat. It's 4-1.

The Single Cat SLP's are a great header, the dual cat headers aren't the greatest, but better than nothing.

The reason I want to see the cheapest kit is not to buy it, but to design and built one for less. I am specifically looking at making a kit just the manifolds(header style),piping and intercooler, I was wondering what something like this sells for. I want to undercut them big time

Please don't tell me I can't do this, I will find out when I try if I can or cannot. If I fail, then I learned if I succeded I will have a fast car Either way I win. So if any of you have built your own or have some ideas maybe you could give me some tips and pointers on what to make sure I do.

Re: Turbo Kit?

Just some advice. DOn't buy the Turbo tech LT-1 kit. It is garbage!! They do however make a VERY good LS-1 kit. The STS would be worlds better than the TTI LT-1 kit. Sounds like PTK is out of the question due to your interest in a cheap kit although you could still buy the hot parts if you can fab up the cold side and find a good quality intercooler. I would personally see if someone on here would be willing to build you a kit or help you out. I don't like rear mounted turbos on anything. Just a personal thing. Good Luck!

Re: Turbo Kit?

Sorry bro, didnt read all of your post. If you are interested in undercutting these other companies I think you are focusing on the wrong car to do it with. Honestly how many turbocharged LT-1s or LS-1's do you see on the streets these days? Not to mention the price of gas! Wouldn't be worth the time and money. BEsides most F-body guys dont want a CHEAP kit. The money has to go somewhere in the construction of this kit. I personally decided on the BEST, PTK. There are no shortcuts taken in the construction of these kits. YEah, you could build a cheap kit, but it wouldnt be very well recieved seeing that you would have to cut corners in order to break even or make any profit at all. And if the quality sucks, we will be sure to spread the word. IF you are set on doing this, best of luck to you. Just dont expect to make alot of $$$.

According to that advertisment, it seems the turbo is sold seperately...
