DSM's are undoubtedly one of the cheapest, easiest, and most "sleeperiffic" way to run 12.00 in the quarter, if not the easiest one on the list. Awesome cars... when they're not broken I've owned 3 - I know from experience. If I could have gotten a RWD drop top 4g63T - I would have.

AWD and boost is a lot of fun. Just take a look at Lingenfelter's S10 pickup they did a while back!

Ive heard that DSM's go through trannys like tissue paper when you really beef them up. Any truth to that?

Yeah the tranny is the weak point. Other then that the car is pretty solid. The motors will take a large amount of abuse.

ha ha I had to chim in on this one. I lurk here cause im building a sbc turbo setup for my SS. But DSMs is what i know. Beleve it or not the tranny is perty strong one you replace what needs to be. there simple to rebuild too.Beleve me i know. i have a 90 with 192,000 miles on the trany i just cracked it open to put seals in it and some shift forks. My Dad has a 92 AWD with all the tricks but a 4 spider diff. anyway Yes turbos rule. and as for turbo headers on a sbc. Just build your own. If ya have the garage space its no problem. You just need a mig and have access to a tig. or if not just tack them together and take it to a local welder to finesh it. when its all said and done a set of headers should run no more than $600 max. stainless too. If your super cheap weld els can be done for $200 but key word being super cheap.
