Turbo Header question.......

Im seriously thinking about selling my t-trim vortech set up and going turbo. I would like to know what size/type header I can purchase to make my own kit. I would like to mount a GT42 in such a manner as another board member (wingnut) had his mounted. High up on the driverside near the radiator support. Or, down low near the crank pulley like some the guys doing the homemade LSx truck manifold kits. If I got a stainless v8 blazer header w/ 3/8 flanges what is the minimum size primary I should look for. There are few ebay listings for these headers but all seem to be 1 1/2" primary. Would this be too small? I would think I would need at least 1 5/8" or 1 3/4 " primary. Any help or suggestions would be awesome.

Thanks,

Eric

You can try Sanderson, but I don't really think those headers will fit into a 4th gen. A better solution would be to call PTK.

I was doing a search for a while for those stainless blazer headers and never found anything. I believe Headman makes 1 3/4" headers like this but they are steel. Good luck finding the stainless ones and if ya do post a link!

Although I didnt find any 1 3/4", I did find some nice stainless 1 5/8" with 3/8" flanges on ebay for around $149.

PTK's are nice.....and expensive, but if I cant find anything else I might have to go that route

Here's that link.

Interesting. Are you planning on turning these around and dumping them up front? If you are I don't think they'll clear the steering shaft.

Re: Turbo Header question.......

Do you know of someone else that has done this with these headers? The problem I see is that the number 8 primary will hit the steering shaft. On my kit I had to get a set of headers that brought the number 8 primary up and over the 2,4, and 6 primaries to clear the shaft, then I still had to dimple number 6.

Here's a pic:

If you look closely you can see the steering shaft running diagonally underneath the header. You can barely slide a sheet of paper between the number 6 primary and the shaft, even after I dimpled it for clearence.

Don't get me wrong. I genuinely hope you can find some way to make those work, because I would prefer something like what Eric posted compared to what I have. I'll help any way I can to make this happen.

Chris, what is the distance from the headr flange to theinner fenderwall in that pic. also, do your primary tubes drop down, then come forward?

So why did PTK go with a 1 3/4" header?

Re: Turbo Header question.......

Cause that is what the original donor car owner wanted. Wasn't necessary though.

I took a couple of rough measurements for you (engine is still hot from driving today). It looks like there's about 6 inches at the narrowest point.

On my headers the 2,4, and 6 primaries come down and forward at the same time. I'll see if I can find a pic of them off the car.

Re: Turbo Header question.......

Here are a couple more pics on the car:

One of the downpipe from the back wrapping around the steering shaft. You can see the header just above it:

Sorry. No pics of the headers off the car.
