Turbo header pipe (where to get it?)

I am building a set of turbo "headers" and need some 1 5/8" O.D. mild steel tubing. I see stainless everywhere, but would like to use mild. I also haven't been able to find a supplier of short collectors for 4-into-1. Anybody know where I can find this stuff?

Buy a Jegs weld-up header kit and some collector flanges from turbonetics. There is plenty of material there to make two headers. I have before. Want pics, email me and I will prove it.

Check out their odd bends, you can get 36 feet of odd bends in 1 5/8" mild steel for only $89.

I just ordered some for myself, and it should be more than enough to finish up my headers.

Wow SMOKNZ, that is the best price I have ever seen. Much thanks. That will make my job easier in the future.

Smokenz, how did you order through them? Did you call in or get a distributor of their's? That place is perfect, I didn't really think about looking into a "header" place. I kept searching for turbo, or exhaust pipe. Thanks.

why do u want mild steel. mild steel can't take the heat like the stainless can. the mild steel will crack over time.

all the racers use 321 stainless.

or if you want to be a bit cheaper and it is still very good 304 stainless. but i would recomend using 321 flanges.

I called them and they forwarded me to a local distributer, who I placed the order from.

Stainless is nice, but I'm still going steel and having it coated, If it cracks, or self destructs, or whatever I could still build about 3 more sets for the price of all stainless. I think that will outlive my relationship with my car.

As an added bonus header building is a trial and error thing, you get better the more sets you build, and I'd rather practice with the cheap stuff, then sometime down the road maybe I'll upgrade.

Here are your collectors, they also sell reducers if you need to go smaller than 3" to the turbo, I went down to 2.5" before the turbo flange.

geat info thank you. Schoenfeld seems to have pretty good deals on their pipe. I too will be coating my masterpiece, I just can't commit to 321 stainless yet. Maybe after I build a set or two but I change my car around all the time and it's not a daily driver so the mild will probably last long enough for a replacement. I am trying to keep cost down as I am going from a L98 to a LT1 and a stroker and now the turbo, not to mention a better fuel system. I also pulled my A4 out of the other vette today because it was slipping. I love my cars, I love my cars, I love my cars, must keep sayin it. At least the weather sucks here!

4-play,

I see your building a turbo setp for a 91 vette? is it going to be a single or a twin application? and where are you planning on mounting the turbo(s)? I am currently researching a single turbo project right now.. and would like to share some ideas with you on it. perhaps we could both benefit from it? shoot me an email,

lcvette1@aol.com

if you have some free time!

The main thing I didn't like about using mild steel is that although you can get the outside coated, some(most) companies won't coat the inside of the headers. Really defeats the purpose, if you ask me.

Looks like "AntiVenom" and "LCVette" have converted to the camaro forums too. Aren't social circles small?

Here's another place I found if you want to go 16 gauge http://www.fastpts.com/hazel-doc/hea...nchor-18-57899
