Turbo-guys... what do you do for tunning?

Just as the tittle says...
I'm guessing the OBI 1 won't cut it all the way (if you're running a decent amount of boost).
So, I just wanted to know what are my options and how much is going to set me back

thanks
leo

I went with a FAST. Depending on how far (how wild you setup is going to get) you may need to go aftermarket. I think most will agree. You can get it done with the stock ECU to a point... but you might as well spend the money on a FAST or DFI if you want to get it done right.

Where did you got your FAST systm. and how much did you pay for it?

If I'm going turbo... I want to do it right the first time (I learned my lesson already).

bought it used actually. Bank-to-bank with wideband O2... running a splice-in harness from www.fasttrackperformance.com .

Shop around and buy a used one. That or a Gen 7 DFI. It shouldn't be hard to find one at a good price if you're patient. Either one will do you nicely.

One note: I've bought EVERYTHING used during this build. Infact, the only things I've bought new were my cams (one for each build), gaskets, wiring harness, and some the little stuff. That was a huge deal to me. I had to buy most everything used to get this done and I still struggled.

Another note (one that you've already figured out): do things right the first time. If you can't, and you have to buy some parts twice (like a decent set of heads the first time and a badass set the second time) make sure it's something you can sell and make some money back on.

sounds good. I do rather buy everything new and have the "warranties" even if it take me longer to get everything. You never know when something is gonna go wrong

Anyway, could someone give me a little more info on this "Super FMU" that comes with the "proturbokits.com" ?

thanks!

well, my knowledge of FMU's (fuel management unit's) is quite minimal. All i know is they take a manifold pressure reference and raise fuel pressure a certain number of PSI for every pound of boost. This is a way to compensate for cars that don't have the ability to tune for boost.

IMO, this is a crutch. Get a DFI and be done with it.

For turbo, I'd only run DFI or FAST. You can run the stock ECM, but I'd suggest a BTM since predicting the boost curve of a turbo motor is a lot tougher than a supercharged motor.

I bought mine used off here, but Fast Track Performance and Precision Turbo are two good places to buy from.

I run an OBD1 computer with mine and tune with tunercat. The computer really can handle alot of the fueling with the MAF, mine maxes out at WOT around 4700 rpm at which point enrichment is all by your PE table. I'd have to say that part throttle boost will be fueled in most part by the airflow (anything above 4700, I'm sure I'm at WOT so tuning will be what I set it for). Timing is limited to one value per cell above atmospheric pressure though.
