Question Total TT setup

Hey all, I've been reading this forum a great deal over the past 5 years and had a few questions I figured you could help me out with. I'm looking to sell my v6 camaro and build a decent turbo car with a street/strip setup. I want to make a decent amount of power, nothing really insane (yet) and still be able to drive the car on weekends, or a few days a week. I have read that both LT1's and LS1's make good turbo cars, and I'm currently shopping for a Z28. Any recommendations? Also, I was wondering what other work on the engine should be done, like forged internals, new tranny, etc. I understand this will cost some money, but I'm looking forward to getting this all set up. My buddy and I recently rebuilt his fiero v6 and threw a turbo on there - but I'd like to do this right and get your opinions. Thanks a lot.

If you look at it from the point that all your really buying is a body (because the motor, tranny, driveline will all be redone) you can get your hands on sone 94-97 LT1 cars for pretty cheap. The LT1 should be able to be built to handle anything you can throw at it.

I would probably find a LS1 car, just because the heads flow better and the ignition system is already the best you can get.

ummm, the LS1 will cost a little more but it looks a better in my opinion and NO OPTISPARK!!! After you change it out for the 3rd time you'll understand.

If I remember right your running a stand alone system? You should just join the rest of us around here and put the distributor in the back of the motor where it works the best!

What's all involved in switching it over? You drill the hole in the manifold, but I'm not sure what it fits into. And what do you do for ignition coils then?

Re: Total TT setup

Easiest way is to drill a hole and drop a standalone dist. in there, and run a wire from the stock coil to the dist cap. MSD makes one for around $179, and the cap and rotor kit is only $20 if it ever needs to be replaced. You still need the opti electronix though, but with the high voltage gone and no ozone to degrade the electronix it should last a long time. There was a post in advanced tech about this. http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=310918
