Took the car for a quick drive today...

Got the wideband wired in nice so decided to take the car for it's first real drive since getting new head gaskets.

When started it was idling somewhat funny but smoothed out (lifters filled up maybe??). Drove it a bit to get it to temp and stopped to check idle again and make sure everything was ok. Seemed to be runnin good.

Took it for a blast or two and the a/f was about right on 11/1 (damn good job Brian. Helluva mailorder tune). Car felt good. After those few runs i came to a stop. Seemed to still be idling real good and all in order.

God a love turbos. lol. Friggin jsut rips the tires off. Never traction

I got back to the shop though and the car was idling wierd. It would idle for a sec like normal... then sputter, loose a few rpms, and go leaner on the wideband and then idle good for a few sec then sputter real quick again.

Any ideas on the sputter??? The car seems healthly besides that =/. Damn this thing.

What rpm is your idle at? Mine at 600 would kind do that, wouldn't stumble, just would give a unique pop every once in awhile. Turns out I had a bigger exhaust leak than I thought, which I think was a good part of the cause.

Well i can see an exhaust leak giving you a pop and showin a bit lean on the wideband... But there is no pop.

It idles nice for a few sec then stumbles and comes back to idling nice again. Its not a consistant "stumble" or miss. Checked all vacuum lines and looked over everything today. Everything looks perfect.

I am at a loss. (didn't run it today though). With the turbo, I really am not trying to run it at all unless it is running perfect (scared of it coming apart or burnin down). So

Took the car for another spin today since i had to relocate it anyways.

It started up and idled nice. Was I happy to hear that!

Took it for a hole like 6 block trip maybe. It got some temp by the time I was at
my destination and when I parked it, it was idling funny again.

So im thinking when it warms up, starts using the o2's, it gets a funny reading from the drivers side that was cut and extended with nothing but but connectors.

What you guys think?? Plausable??

Datalog it? I would check the 02 first off and maybe get a new extension and see how that works.

It's difficult to therorize about what may be causing the erratic idle. Get a monitor for an OBD II PMC and see what the sensor readings are.

Where's your MAF in relation to the throttle-body? Is there the potential that some turbulence is being fed into it? The air flowing into the MAF needs to be fairly straight and not upset by other bypass hoses, etc. Should be about 4+ inches away from other tubes, etc.
