Thinking about getting a Supercharger/Turbo

So after MUCH research and talking to MANY engine builders and whatnot i have decided to rebuild my engine to stock and throw a supercharger/turbocharger on it.

While i am rebuilding the engine i figure i should be putting in forged pistons - anything else i should do to the internals while it is apart? I was going to use the stock crank and rods.

What supercharger system should i go with? - i think you all say procharger is the way to go with an intercooler - is this correct?

Or a turbo?

Thanks

Re: Thinking about getting a Supercharger/Turbo

Turbo seems to be the hottest form of Forced Induction right now. People are making some excellent power with a variety of Turbo systems.

I think the turbo gives you more flexability down the road to make more and more power, as your hunger to go faster changes.

I thought about all the options to make more power (Head/Cam, Nitrous, Supercharger, Turbo) and decided to go the Turbo route. Well sort of the Turbo route, I'm also doing a 383, with new heads and cam.

I'm having GMR Speed build the Turbo for my car. If you have an LS1, they already have both single and dual kits avaliable. If you have an LT1 like me, then you'll have to wait a few months for GMR's single kit.

Good Luck

Re: Thinking about getting a Supercharger/Turbo

So Is this a way to get ~440RWHP :

-CC305 cam

-.030 ( machine shop is getting back to me on what needs to be done here)
FORGED DISHED PISTONS

-30lb injectors

-STOCK CRANK

- Arp rod bolts? - what exactly are these? and do i need to do anything with my main caps ?

- and Connecting rods - Forged ? not forged ? - H beam? I beam? OR STOCK

- 6 - 8 psi with 2 core air-to - air intercooler from procharger ? anyone know exatly what model ? i drive a 1993 camaro.

Thanks guys

No offense, but IMO you need to research a LOT more before you proceed any further. The answers to many of your questions depend on variables. I suggest hanging out in here for awhile and doing several searches right here in the FI forum and then question us some more afterward. Think a little more about what you want to do down the road. What are your ultimate HP goals w/this particular engine you're building?

What you propose would probably net more like ~410 rwhp on stock heads depending on exhaust system, the compression ratio, your rockers, etc ...you're leaving out a whole lot of information. You wouldn't have much room to grow w/stock crank & rods but they would probably be fine if you stuck w/no more than that. At the least you should stud your mains and yes, use ARP rod bolts. You'd be better off w/42# injectors and deleting the FMU that comes in most sc kits, with the 42's you've got room to grow and not getting so close to the max duty cycle. The CC 305 cam works pretty well w/boost but you could do better for sure, custom grind is the way to go or a mild off the shelf blower grind. Lloyd Elliot is a good low $$ option for getting those heads to flow well. I wouldn't go w/ProCharger myself, I would suggest a nice used Vortech S-Trim V1 or V2 (V2 is quiet version) w/Aftercooler. The Vortech has a nice spring loaded tensioner and seems to be regarded as the highest in quality in this community. I could write a book about what I've learned, and I don't know half of what some of the members in here do. So stick around and do several searches right here in the FI forum and give us more details for your questions. ...good luck. BTW, expect to shell out 2 - 3 times more $$$ than you initially plan for in the bitter end. The good part is you're rebuilding first, that's a very good thing and I would try to do it to the best of what will work for your plans the first time around, rather than having to do it twice.

your post is contradicting itsself....... you must not have done much reaserch or talked to any decent engine builders....well if you did you must not have talked to them about building a motor for FI.
then you mentioned building your motor to stock...... then you start talking about forged pistons. which is it build a stock motor or a nonstock one.

if you want a motor for FI put some forged pistons and rods in at the minimum.
