Thinking about a cam swap, thoughts?

Well I still can't bite off a new turbo. After seeing the post over on ls1tech with nearly 700 out of a t70 I know it has more left. I'll post my dyno sheet when I get home, but basically I just can't get used to shifting at 5300ish rpms. I enjoy my tq monster, but wish a bit more of my powerband was usable up top.

I am running a 218/224 .530ish lift 112 cam

board member has a 224/230 .545ish 114 cam thats new and for a good price.

I have been thinking about pulling the motor out to fix a bad pan gasket, some wiring, clean the engine bay, etc - And pulling the motor isn't that much work anymore.

Considering my springs will work and theres nothing really to change except maybe a new timing cover gasket if I do this - is it worth it? Or do I look for somthing bigger?

Is your turbo too small?

well I just figured it might be because you shift at 5,300. Seems to me if you get a bigger camshaft you will have to shift even lower because of the increased airflow from the cam.
Do you shift at 5,300 because your turbo quits there or does it have something to do with your 112 lsa?

The graph will explain more - and truthfully I can spin it a bit higher than that, I'm just used to na and n2o motors with grossly oversized cams and 7k+ rpm shifts.

Peak 560 hp I think was just before 5k, holds steady till about 5.5k and is down to 300ish hp by 6k - It falls off drastically in the upper 5000 range. TQ on the other hand spikes to 640 whenever the turbo spools and holds mostly flat up until it starts dropping around peak hp.

Sounds to me like you need a bigger turbo AND a bigger cam!

Comp spec’d me a custom cam for my setup with 6100-6500 shiftpoints for my A4. I gave them my entire setup with flow rates. I ended up with a 230/236 .544/.555 114LSA on a 1.6RR. Im yet to finish the hot side so I am not sure how it will be but im sure ill like it …Mine is also a 383.

Ive heard the MPt70 doesn’t have much more then 570ish in it tho.

Why do I ask questions that I already know the answer to?
I should probably just be happy with it,, but I'm feeling bored.

I don't think you'll see much improvement with that cam change. You would need more duration and list to see a difference. Your car needs some heads!
