supercharger on lightly moded LT1
I was working my self towards the heads and cam route with my car for a while now. Now I am thinking about getting a Ati prochrger. I have a few questions though. I tried the search still didn't come up with much. My car has around 80,000 mi .
#1. I have heard that with a stock bottom end a supercharger will make the cyilinder pressure so great that it will cause damage and result in loosing a couple cylinders. Is that true?
#2.If I buy the kit with 8 psi w intercooler what else would I need to install it? or is it a plug and play deal?
#3.Will I need tuning?
#4. My goals are to be at or close to 400 rwhp, I want to be able to walk ls1's and keep up with the new vette. Wich way would be the best/ easy way to reach my goal Supercharger or N/A (heads and cam)
Thanks , AJ

Re: supercharger on lightly moded LT1
Id go NA all the way.....on a stock block its only a matter of time til you'll need a rebuild etc running 8psi. Id stay w/your original idea of heads n cam...You can get a fairly inexpensive Llyold Elliot set up that will put right around 400 give or take, and you wont have to deal w/ any of the BS or problems of forced induction.

if you are willing and can afford to sink yourself taht deep into a car, FI is def. the way to go. i will most likly get some sort of FI on my 97 z and just wait for the stock short block to self destroy and build up a 355.

Re: supercharger on lightly moded LT1
well ive got 160k on the car, blown for 10k. 7psi, S-trim. i got it all tuned in, no fmu BS, 42lb injectors...other then the fuel system and the blower, the car was stock right down to the muffler and exhaust manifolds. it put down just shy of 400rwhp with no mods other than the blower.
your goals would easily be met for the most part...i can keep up with a bolt on and cammed LS1 vette...aswell as door to door with the new C6....actually now i would pull them. It is hit or miss though...the tune is EVERYTHING. people who just use the fmu crap and dont tune it, are the ones you get bad stories from.

yup, i got a pretty well known shop up the street from me, they do ls1 and mustangs most of the time. they have done quit a few lt1 vettes and never had a problem with any off them. they dyno tune using lt1 edit and a few of the cars a DD in the summer and a raced on the weekend.

Re: supercharger on lightly moded LT1
Thanks for the replys guys. I am still on the fence on wich to do. I am looking for the most relyable bang for the buck so to speak. If I do the heads and cam route I will have to change opti, get a T/C ,heads ,cam, timing chain, springs,rr's,lifters ,tune,ect.....With all that, I am looking at about the same or more in price with the Superchager package. I just am wondering wich is a better investment. With either route I take I will be doing all the work with a good mechanic friend of mine. Seems like the SC will be less work though. Thanks again for all the advice. AJ
